If you are looking at preparing a trip to Europe, probably you
are going to feel a bit lost. The cultural variety and differences
between countries is so wide that you couldn't get insight in the whole
continent unless you spent there more than a year. Instead, and
understanding your boss is not the kind of nice guy who would give you a
whole year out, I'm gonna give some advice for your Europe trip
planning.
First
of all, the basic question. Where to start from? Well, many people will
tell you very different things, but as a professional trip organizer I
would not hesitate in telling you to make sure which places you want to
be at. Sounds like pretty obvious but many people just start looking for
flights to Europe and they still don't know what from Europe they want
to see. If you understand Europe as a country, you are very wrong.
Europe trip planning then must begin with a selection of the countries
or cities you are looking to visit.
I strongly encourage all my
customers to take a look at a determined region instead of trying to get
a bit of everything. If you take Eastern Europe, don't try to also see
Paris and Rome, it will just not make sense. Keep it in mind, and visit
Paris, Rome, Berlin and London another year on a different trip focusing
on the big capitals. If you choose the south of Europe, get to Italy,
Spain, Greece and Portugal. Looking at Sweden in this trip would make
absolutely no sense.
Once you've selected the area of your choice,
the next step in Europe trip planning is to look at the transportation
between cities. If you are visiting less than 6 cities the plane will be
always the best option. If you are looking for a longer trip, a train
pass will be normally your best option. is more time consuming, but in
Europe a trip by train can be an experience by itself, specially if you
choose central Europe as a region to discover.
Then it is time to
look for the flights. Being aware of the flights that link your city
with the continent you should be able to see which city it is cheaper to
fly to. Normally a round trip will be the best option, so try to begin
and end your itinerary at the same place, even if this means you'll do
an extra trip by train or plane to a city you've already visited. I can
promise it will be cheaper in the end.
Finally, accommodation and
activities are the last things remaining. I'm not going to expose a
whole strategy for choosing accommodation as this would be a different
article, and the objective of that one is to order priorities in your
mind when it comes to Europe trip planning. If you know what comes first
and what comes last, you'll get it pretty soon! Still, if you need some
help, some trip organizers can set it for you for quite a reduced
price.
